Adventure is Built-In
Troop 282 camps monthly typically on the 3rd weekend. This schedule may change based on group events we attend, including:
Spring camporees and Order if the Arrow call-outs
Fall camporees
Mid-America Council Jubilees
Every summer Troop 282 attends week 2 at our local Scout camp, Camp Cedars. In rotation, every other summer Scouts vote on a 2nd summer camp to attend or a Scouting America High Adventure Base. For example the last 2 summers looked like:
In the Summer of 2024 Troop 282 attended...
Camp Cedars Session 2
1 Crew to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico
Camp Cris Dobbins at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch in the mountains of Colorado
And the Troop attended in the Summer of 2025...
Camp Cedars Session 2
1 Crew to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico
3 Crews to Scouting America's Sea Base in the Florida Keys
For 2nd summer camps the Scouts vote on Scout camps they'd like to attend. This helps increase retention by introducing new challenges for older Scouts while maintaining a predictable core learning environment for 1st year Scouts in a nearby setting. 1st Baron Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, is quoted as saying that Scouts are not sitting down animals, that is still a reality today. Scouts that attend summer camps at either a traditional resident camp or a high adventure have an exponentially higher average of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and beyond. The bounds these young leaders of tomorrow make during these outings last far beyond Scouting forging life-long friendships. Many of these patrols room together at college, vacation together and regularly come back to visit Troop 282. Come and start relationship building today.
