Patrick Borg leads the Scouts of Troop 282. He has amassed a team of Assistant Scoutmasters each with a focus on a separate part of Troop 282.
Pat Borg is an Eagle Scout who has 2 sons Troop 282. One an Eagle Scout and well on his way to Eagle Scout.
Pat is Wood Badge trained having finished all of his ‘ticket’ in 2020.
Pat has earned the God & Service award through his church and Scouting for outstanding service to youth and the community.
Pat has earned the Scoutmaster of the Year award from the Black Hawk District of the Mid-America Council in April of 2024.
Pat took the reins as Scoutmaster of Troop 282 in August of 2023 and is doing a fantastic job.
Troop 282 is a Scout led unit. That means the person in charge is Senior Patrol Leader Carl B. Carl is NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) trained and does an amazing job as leader with an even hand and lots of patience. He and his team of Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders meet regularly to plan meetings, campouts, Merit Badges and more.
Come and visit to see how and where your Scout can lead one day.
Art Hieronymus serves as the Troops 1st Year Scoutmaster.
The 1st year as a Scout BSA is vital as they learn all of the basic Scout skills they need to amass on the road to 1st Class. Often called the time a Scout transitions from a learner to a leader.
Art does an amazing job facilitating the process and ensuring each Scout gets the attention required for their success. Skills are overlooked by the Assistant Scoutmasters while being taught, through the EDGE method (Explain, Demonstrate, Guide & Enable), by Scouts 1st Class and above.
That process is culminated each January at our leadership summit where they take the Introduction to Leadership Skills course required for Scouts to attend National Youth Leadership Training.
We challenge you to come and join Art's team and help guide these fine Scouts on their leadership journey.
Jr. Assistant Scoutmasters are young men and women who have attained the rank of Eagle and have served as Senior Patrol Leader along the way. They serve as mentors to the current SPL and ASPLs sharing valuable tips and tricks to ensure their success.
The Jr. ASMs also help older Scouts who are working towards the all-important last step to Eagle Scout, that of the Eagle Scout project. They serve as sounding boards keeping the focus where it needs to be, 1. highlighting the Scouts leadership ability and 2. creating something sustainable for the community at large.
The Troop can't say enough how valuable the Jr. ASMs are to the process of learning leaderships tools and understanding the Scouts Aims and methods.
Keith will take the stress out of Scout finances.
Troop 282 is blessed to have healthy finances. That allows your Scout to keep any commissions earned through fundraising activities including popcorn and camp card sales. The Troop also has it's own fundraiser in annual fertilzer sales in the early spring.
Scout accounts can be used for camping, gear, classes, and High Adventures. Keith will keep you informed and help you make a plan.
Scouting too expensive? Troop 282 will help you find alternatives including council scholarships and Troop scholarships. No youth should be excluded due to afmily finances.
Troop 282's Chaplain Justyn ensures each campout as a Scout's Own service and any religious considerations are followed. This includes dietary considerations. Troop 282 is co-sponsored by St. Paul's Lutheran Church which is an ELCA Lutheran body. The Troop runs the Reverent program from a non-denominational standpoint. Baden Powell (the founder of Scouting) once said a Scout's Own may be the first time a Scout has ever been exposed to organized religion.
Troop 282 also runs a Duty to God program for all ages of youth each November through January to help Scouts BSA, Girls Scouts and more achieve their PRAY awards.
Justyn also acts as next in line for Committee Chair. (Bob does smell his soup before he eats it...)
Troop 282's largest annual service project is coordinating the Scouting for Trees live Christmas tree recycling program. We oversee and coordinate with the collection and recycling of over 7,000 Christmas trees each year from Omaha to Lincoln and Kearney. This project has been growing for a quarter of a century and the S4T team is on track to grow it all across Nebraska.

Troop 282 welcomes adults to serve as Assistant Scoutmasters. Our ASMs are all position trained and many are Wood Badge trained.
Troop 282 is blessed to have many adults who step up and typically has a 1 to 4 adult to Scout ratio for events and campouts.
The most important person to success or failure of an event, especially camping, falls to the Quartermaster. Troop 282 has had amazing Scout Quartermasters, but only becuase their mentor in Paul is so strong.
Paul's ability to keep track of so much gear, keep it working order and make sure basic supplies like propane and paper towels never run out makes him a constant hero of Souts and Scout leaders alike. Next time you run across Paul, tell him thank you for taking such ownership and good care of Troop asets.
Thank you!
Scoutmaster Angela Kristenelli is an amazing and enthusiastic Scoutmaster on hand for our female Scout BSA members. She is excited to be out camping and always greets with a smile.
The hardest worker in the whole leadership team has to be our advancement chair Karina. There's a lot to keep track of all in a tool required by Scouting America that is, cumbersome and wrought with bugs. Karina does it all with a smile and endless enthusiasm.
Beware, that smile will pull you in and before you know it you'll be serving on a Board of Review to help a Scout increase their rank. Please find her and give a huge thank you for all her hard work.
Month in and month out Jennifer coordinates the Troops campouts. From getting the venues to facilitating the shopping money to each patrol she is a key to a smooth outdoor program.
Troop 282 camps 11 months of the year skipping only December when we hold a banquet and Christmas celebration the Mlonday before Christmas.
